Brownfields

Brownfield sites are defined as abandoned, idled, or underused industrial or commercial property where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by either real or perceived environmental contamination. Brownfield sites are diamonds in the rough that need visionary assistance to recreate them into community assets.

Meeting Challenges

Brownfield sites tend to have unique physical or socioeconomic challenges, often greater than actual environmental contamination. SynTerra teams with other professional providers to overcome these challenges and offer solutions that have proven successful at a variety of challenging sites.

Commitment to Revitalization

In 2001, SynTerra invested in a former derelict textile mill beyond the mainstream of downtown Greenville. Ownership of this former Brownfield site is a tangible symbol of our commitment to smart growth, site revitalization, and preservation of the heart of communities.

SynTerra is proud of its involvement with this Brownfield site, from conducting the Phase I assessment and asbestos survey through renovating the building into our unique office space. Brownfields projects such as this offer us the opportunity to contribute to community enrichment professionally and personally.

Public Participation

A key element to federal Brownfields grants is involving the community in the redevelopment process. SynTerra has received national recognition for an innovative way of enhancing public participation though the school system. This can be a very positive experience for the community and a means of promoting interest in revitalization projects.

Variety of Services

SynTerra's wide variety of civil engineering and environmental services, including asbestos and lead-based paint surveys, wetlands delineation, environmental site assessments and civil design, provide complete support to our Brownfields redevelopment projects.
