Monitoring of ambient air, subsurface gases, indoor air, vapor intrusion, surface water, soil and groundwater quality are conducted for many reasons, including compliance monitoring, assessment of potential health effects, risk assessment, remediation system evaluations, and demolition or deconstruction activities. The purpose of the monitoring may be to verify the media is clean (typically relative to established standards), to monitor on-going operations (for regulatory compliance or voluntary initiatives), to assess media variations over time, or to evaluate the effectiveness remediation efforts.
