Licensed Mining Engineer - Lexington, KY

SynTerra is seeking an experienced licensed Mining Engineer to bring technical expertise and innovative solutions to our clients. This role requires a balance of independent project work, client collaboration, and teamwork with fellow engineering and environmental professionals. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of engineering experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to thrive in both office and field settings.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct engineering analyses, develop designs, and support preparation of construction drawings.
  • Manage and execute multiple tasks across various projects.
  • Participate in field work and occasional travel to client sites.
  • Document and follow through on professional commitments, coordinate meetings, and manage project schedules.
  • Leverage advanced office software to create, edit, and deliver professional documents and presentations.
  • Interpret site data, construction plans, historical references, and investigations to deliver accurate project documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, clients, subcontractors, and regulatory representatives.

 What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining (or Civil) Engineering preferred, other engineering fields considered. Most clients served from this office are in the Mining Industry.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in environmental consulting is a plus.
  • Knowledge of CAD, and/or GIS programs a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel overnight occasionally.

Licensed Engineer Project Manager - Location Flexible

Location: South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, or similar

SynTerra is seeking an experienced licensed Civil or Mining Engineer with expertise in solid waste, water & wastewater, or mining engineering. In this role, you’ll lead diverse projects from concept through completion, ensuring quality results for our clients across multiple industries.

This is a client-facing position where you’ll manage teams, coordinate stakeholders, and deliver innovative engineering solutions that drive real impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, fostering strong relationships.
  • Manage projects through all phases: proposal, planning, implementation, and close-out.
  • Build and lead project teams, assigning roles and ensuring proper resource allocation.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Review and approve project deliverables for quality and compliance.
  • Prepare and review proposals, PCRs, and monthly invoices.
  • Handle administrative tasks including weekly timesheets, expense reports, and approvals at designated thresholds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mining Engineering (or related discipline).
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in at least one U.S. state (desired).
  • 10+ years of professional engineering experience, with prior project management and business development responsibility.
  • Consulting experience strongly preferred; pulp & paper industry experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess client needs and provide effective engineering solutions.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following areas:
    • Solid waste landfill design, construction, and operations
    • Waste handling or beneficial reuse of residuals (pulp & paper)
    • Stormwater/wastewater impoundment design, construction, and inspections
    • Environmental compliance (solid waste, stormwater, oil pollution control)
    • Remediation projects in industrial settings
    • Water and wastewater permitting and management systems

Entry Level Engineer - Cary, NC

You should have 0-2 years of work experience. Experience with environmental compliance, preparing permit applications (air, stormwater, or wastewater) and technical writing are a plus. This position requires the ability to work independently on specific assigned tasks in collaboration with experienced project team members. The position requires the ability to occasionally work in an outdoor environment and to travel.

Environmental Engineering Project Manager - Greenville, SC

SynTerra is looking for a qualified Mid-level Environmental Engineer who can offer our clients their expertise. The Environmental Engineer’s main role is to manage multiple projects in collaboration with Business Unit Leaders. The responsibility of this role is to take projects from the original concept and proposal phase through final implementation and closure. This position interfaces with all project aspects, including project team members, clients, other stakeholders, and vendors.

We provide assessment and remediation services on a wide variety of projects for a very diverse set of clients, primarily within the Southeastern United States.

Position snapshot:

  • Fill the lead position in client, project, and resource management.
  • Assemble the project team, assign individual responsibilities of the team members, and identify appropriate resources needed to ensure project completion.
  • Prepare project schedules to ensure timely completion of the project.
  • Review project deliverables and ensure adherence to SynTerra data and document quality standards.
  • Prepare proposals and project change requests (PCRs) with assistance from other team members as needed.
  • Review and finalize proposals and PCRs prior to submittal to clients.
  • Review, revise, and approve monthly project invoices.
  • Take responsibility for project profitability, adherence to the project schedule, and work quality. Monitor progress and performance against the project plan.
  • Effectively communicate with internal and external clients.
  • Takes action to resolve issues and minimize risk.
  • Comply with SynTerra’s Corporate policies and procedures.
  • Complete assigned Health and Safety training on schedule.
  • Full-time employees: Available to work 40 hours per week, plus additional hours as needed to meet project deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Business Unit Leader or their designee.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, civil, or chemical engineering.
  • Professional Engineering license in at least one state is required. Current NCEES record is preferred.
  • At least seven years of relevant experience as an environmental consultant. At least four (4) years of experience with project management is required.
  • Experience in business development is a strong advantage, and candidates with a desire to take on a business development role are preferred.
  • Experience managing personnel a plus.
  • Ability to understand regulations, and present regulatory compliance options to clients.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following areas: air emissions inventories, calculations, and permit preparation; Tier II and TRI reporting; SPCCP and SWPPP preparation; environmental regulatory compliance management; wastewater treatment design; stormwater permitting and stormwater control design.
  • Software proficiency in one or more of the following: ERP systems, CRM systems, or Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Will be expected to routinely conduct engineering calculations to support project assignments.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER trained preferred.
  • Strong oral presentation and technical writing skills required.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
