Engineering Technician - Lexington, KY

Engineering Technician

SynTerra is looking for an Engineering Technician who has the expertise to help our clients. You should have a minimum of 2 years of experience in engineering or survey field work. This position is based out of our Lexington, KY office and requires the ability to work independently on specific tasks and in collaboration with clients and other environmental professionals. The position requires the ability to work in an outdoor environment and to travel.

Responsibilities:

Key functions of the Engineering Technician include providing CAD mapping, assisting the engineering team and effectively communicating with other staff members. The Engineering Technician should be able to work away from home for up to a week at a time.

Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in CAD design, Surveying and Mapping, or other engineering/technical field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in engineering or surveying projects
  • Additional knowledge of mining, surveying, or construction designs preferred
  • Proficiency in Map3D or Civil 3D a plus
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • MSHA Part 48 Subpart B trained a plus

Environmental Remediation Engineer - Location flexible

SynTerra is looking for an engineer to lead our Environmental Remediation team and help our clients succeed. You should have 5-10 years of experience in environmental assessment and remediation, designing solutions for affected groundwater and soil. This position requires the ability to manage deadlines and deliverables, while also delegating tasks to team members. This position requires the ability to work independently on specific tasks and in collaboration with clients and other environmental professionals.

Responsibilities:

The Environmental Remediation engineer will oversee remediation projects that address affected soil, soil vapor, sediment, surface water, or groundwater. You will prepare or direct the following:

  • Feasibility studies for remedial action alternatives
  • Conceptual remedial action plans and documents
  • Remedial action figures and drawings
  • Collaboration with detailed design engineers for plans and drawings for remediation systems as the engineer of record
  • Implementation of remedial systems, including coordinating subcontractors
  • Operation and maintenance of remedial systems, particularly in identifying problems and assisting with correcting the identified problems
  • Assistance to our clients managing related regulatory compliance matters
  • Mentorship of group members and other company professionals

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering
  • Master’s degree in relevant field a plus
  • Minimum 5 years experience in environmental remediation
  • Professional Engineer in North Carolina and South Carolina or able to obtain through reciprocity
  • Strong technical writing skills and strong verbal skills

Mid-Level Environmental Engineer - Greenville, SC

SynTerra is looking for a qualified Mid-level Environmental Engineer who can offer our clients their expertise. The Environmental Engineer’s main role is to manage multiple projects in collaboration with Business Unit Leaders. The responsibility of this role is to take projects from the original concept and proposal phase through final implementation and closure. This position interfaces with all project aspects, including project team members, clients, other stakeholders, and vendors.

We provide assessment and remediation services on a wide variety of projects for a very diverse set of clients, primarily within the Southeastern United States.

Position snapshot:

  • Fill the lead position in client, project, and resource management.
  • Assemble the project team, assign individual responsibilities of the team members, and identify appropriate resources needed to ensure project completion.
  • Prepare project schedules to ensure timely completion of the project.
  • Review project deliverables and ensure adherence to SynTerra data and document quality standards.
  • Prepare proposals and project change requests (PCRs) with assistance from other team members as needed.
  • Review and finalize proposals and PCRs prior to submittal to clients.
  • Review, revise, and approve monthly project invoices.
  • Take responsibility for project profitability, adherence to the project schedule, and work quality.

  • At least six (6) years of relevant experience as an environmental consultant or an environmental manager for a manufacturer is required. At least four (4) years of experience with project management is required.
  • Ability to understand regulations, and present regulatory compliance options to clients.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following areas: air emissions inventories, calculations, and permit preparation; Tier II and TRI reporting; SPCCP and SWPPP preparation; environmental regulatory compliance management; wastewater treatment design; stormwater permitting and stormwater control design.
  • Software proficiency in one or more of the following: ERP systems, CRM systems, or Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Will be expected to routinely conduct engineering calculations to support project
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER trained preferred.
  • Strong oral presentation and technical writing skills required.

Industrial Hygiene Project Scientist - Cary, NC

You should have a minimum of 2 years of experience with projects related to asbestos, lead-based paint, microbial assessments, indoor air quality, and other industrial hygiene projects. This position requires the ability to work independently on specific tasks and in collaboration with clients and other environmental professionals and requires the ability to travel to remote project sites.

Civil and Environmental Engineer/Project Manager - Location Flexible

SynTerra is looking for a qualified civil or environmental engineering project manager who has experience with solid waste, water & wastewater, or mining engineering and can offer our clients their expertise. The project manager plays a crucial role in overseeing multiple projects and ensuring their successful completion. The responsibility of this role is to direct projects from the original concept and proposal phase through final implementation and closure. This position interfaces with all project aspects, including clients, other stakeholders, and vendors.

This role’s location could also be in Greenville, South Carolina; Atlanta, Georgia; Savannah, Georgia; and Birmingham, Alabama areas.

The civil or environmental engineering project manager will be responsible for the following in addition to project work:

• Submit timesheets and expense reports weekly.

• Provide signature level at certain thresholds.

• Assemble the project team, assign individual responsibilities to team members, and identify appropriate resources needed to ensure project completion.

• Prepare project schedules to ensure timely completion of the project.

• Review project deliverables to ensure adherence to quality standards.

• Effectively communicate with the client’s primary contact (client manager or other as designated).

• Prepare and review proposals and PCRs before submittal to clients.

• Review and approve monthly project invoices.

 

Requirements:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, or mining engineering or another engineering discipline depending on experience.
  • Licensing in any state as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) is required.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience.
  • Experience as an Environmental Consultant is preferred. The candidate should have a strong ability to analyze, evaluate, and recommend engineering solutions to clients.
  • Experience managing projects is required.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following areas:
  • industrial solid waste landfill design, construction and operations (plans and air-space use)
  • waste handling or beneficial reuse of residuals from pulp and paper manufacturing
  • stormwater and wastewater impoundments at pulp and paper manufacturers – design, construction, evaluation, inspections
