Director of Business Development - Greenville, SC

Role Overview: The Director of Business Development role develops, coordinates, and leads strategic business development activities to grow and diversify revenue. This position serves on the Management Team and is responsible to working with each business unit to identify and assess opportunities for revenue growth and assist with implementation of revenue-related growth tactics. Role Overview: The Environmental Engineer’s main role is to manage multiple projects in collaboration with Business Unit Leaders. We are seeking an experienced environmental Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessor. The position will support multiple clients and projects, with the common theme of characterizing the interactions of organisms (e.g., people, wildlife, fish, invertebrates) and chemicals. You should have 3-5 years’ experience with projects related to asbestos, lead-based paint, microbial assessments, indoor air quality, and other industrial hygiene projects. This position requires the ability to work independently on specific tasks and in collaboration with clients and other environmental professionals and requires the ability to travel to remote project sites.

An additional skill set as a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) practitioner is also sought, but not required. Expertise with Phase I and Phase II ESAs and meeting the requirements of an Environmental Professional per E1527-21 is a plus.

  • Provides outstanding client services for projects within the Property Services business unit and across other business lines as needed.
  • Understands client objectives and develop plans to inform solutions to those objectives.
  • Responsible for managing multiple projects and meet timing requirements that frequently adjust.
  • Prepares a wide variety of recurring and nonrecurring correspondence, reports, proposals, and other documents from information obtained from the staff, files, and other sources.

Minimum Skills/Experience Required:

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • South Carolina Asbestos; Inspector, Air Sampler, Designer, and Management Planner.
  • Accredited Lead Inspector and Risk Assessor.
  • Mold Inspector training certificate.
  • Phase I Environmental Site Assessment and Phase II Environmental Site Assessment experience.
  • Ability to meet the requirements of an Environmental Professional per E1527-21 is a plus.
  • Experience with EPA Brownfield Grant program a plus.
  • Software proficiency (including but not limited to): Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for all levels of technical understanding.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • 40 hr. OSHA HAZWOPER trained a plus.

Physical Demands/Working Environment:

  • The Industrial Hygienist must be able to concentrate for extended periods of time paying close attention to detail.
  • The Industrial Hygienist’s work environment does not require much physical movement. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.
  • This position is an office environment. There may be occasional trips to customer sites required in this job, where dust and noise may be present.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

PFAS Practice Leader - Charlotte, NC

SynTerra is looking for an experienced environmental professional to lead our PFAS environmental services. The successful candidate will have experience consulting on PFAS, with thorough knowledge on PFAS chemistry. This position requires the ability to work independently on specific tasks and in collaboration with clients and other environmental professionals. SynTerra offers opportunities to manage projects, communicate with clients and present or publish work through science conferences and peer-reviewed journals. The position could be based out of our Charlotte, NC office or Cary, NC office, with potential for occasional remote work.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as company technical lead for SynTerra’s PFAS environmental services.
  • Supervise staff field operations, including methodology and QA/QC.
  • Monitor and anticipate federal and state regulation updates.
  • Monitor analytical methods development.
  • Develop business with environmental attorneys, municipalities, and industrial clients.
  • Prepare presentations at conferences or symposiums.
  • Work collaboratively with project teams to deliver accurate and timely work products.
  • Prepare documents such as letters, memoranda, proposals, work plans and investigative reports.
  • Support business development; including bringing in new clients and obtaining repeat business from existing clients, leading proposal preparation, and developing and implementing a business development plan.
  • Capitalize on the expanding market in NC and the southeastern US for PFAS assessment and remediation services.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in an environmental science, geology, chemistry, geochemistry or environmental science discipline required.
  • At least 10 years of work experience in an environmental consulting or regulatory environment (with focus on PFAS and other sites with contaminated soil, groundwater, surface water or sediments for industrial clients, municipalities, and law firms).
  • Sufficient credentials/experience with PFAS to provide expert witness testimony.
  • Experience with flow and transport modeling experience is a plus.
  • Ability to present to scientific, regulatory and public audiences.
  • Must feel comfortable communicating technical concepts with staff, attorneys and clients.
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed.
  • Working knowledge of relevant state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Experience working on legally sensitive projects.
  • OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers preferred.
  • Valid state driver’s license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of SynTerra’s Vehicle Procedure.
  • Ability to pass drug and background screening.
