Civil Engineer / Project Manager — Charlotte, NC
Job description:

SynTerra is looking for a Civil Engineer / Project Manager who can demonstrate the capability to work in a collaborative team environment, and independently manage changes and schedules and balance multiple projects simultaneously. The candidate must have substantial experience managing civil engineering projects, preferably with some exposure to consulting and civil engineering site plan development. The candidate must be flexible and thrive in a fast paced, team environment. The candidate would be working within our Site and Economic Development Group in Charlotte, NC or Greenville, SC.

Position snapshot:
  • Coordinate and lead design efforts for civil engineering site plans for site development (Auto CAD) and environmental projects.
  • Operate in a project management role; expected to coordinate with clients, subcontractors, and/or regulatory representatives about project goals, needs, status, etc.
  • Manage projects involving site design, grading, stormwater, erosion and sedimentation control, and more.
  • Participate in business development opportunities (conferences, client events, etc.).
  • Occasional field work or site visits may also be required depending on project needs.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • 4-12 years of project experience (developing plans for civil engineering site design, grading, stormwater, and erosion & sedimentation control)
  • Experience managing civil engineering projects
  • Pump station design and specification experience preferred
  • P.E. license preferred in North Carolina or South Carolina (or ability to obtain P.E. within 6 months)
  • Experience in developing plans for civil engineering site design
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D with site, grading, and utility design
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Familiarity with GIS and Bentley SITEOPS is desired
  • Additional experience of benefit but not required – SketchUp or other 3D modeling programs

Project Engineer / Geologist — Cary, NC
Job description:

SynTerra seeks a Project Engineer/Geologist to support multiple project managers across a group of sites/projects. The Project Engineer/Geologist is often the most visible staff member to the client and should build relationships with site personnel. The Project Engineer/Geologist provides direction and review to the project field team during the execution of assessments and evaluations.

Position snapshot:
  • Provide outstanding client services for projects within the Assessment and Remediation business unit.
  • Understand client objectives and develop plans to inform solutions to those objectives.
  • Understand regulatory requirements of various state and federal programs.
  • Work with others to design and implement closure solutions.
  • Plan and implement assessment activities.
  • Prepare a wide variety of recurring and nonrecurring correspondence, reports, and other documents from information obtained from the staff, files, and other sources.
  • Independently note and follow-up on professional commitments made at meetings, or as affected by other staff members, coordinate meeting arrangements, and schedules meetings, conferences, etc.
  • Create a variety of quality outputs in a professional and timely manner.
  • Interpret annotations, construction plans, historical references, interviews, on-site investigations, and site plans in developing the appropriate document submission to satisfy client’s needs.

  • Software proficiency (including but not limited to): Adobe Acrobat, ESRI ArcGIS, Google Earth Pro, and Microsoft Office Suite. Coding experience a plus.
  • 40 hr. OSHA HAZWOPER trained a plus.
  • Working knowledge of field investigation methods (e.g., drilling, monitoring well installation, and sampling of soil, groundwater, sediments, surface water, and air).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for all levels of technical understanding.
  • Excellent math skills required.
  • Must maintain valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
Physical Demands/Working Environment:
  • The Project Engineer/Geologist must be able to concentrate for extended periods of time paying close attention to detail.
  • The Project Engineer/Geologist’s work environment involves work in both indoor and outdoor settings in environments ranging from climate controlled office space to areas where dust, noise, and outdoor weather conditions may be present.
  • May sit or stand for several hours at a time and climb inclines (terrains, ladders, etc.).
  • The Project Engineer/Geologist must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Mid-Level Environmental Engineer - Greenville, SC

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

Role Overview: A Mid-Level Environmental Engineer’s main role is to oversee high-priority projects in collaboration with a Business Unit Leader. The responsibility of this role is to take projects from original concept/proposal phase through final implementation and closure. This position interfaces with all areas involved in the project, including clients, other stakeholders, and vendors.

Responsibilities: (The following is a list of responsibilities of this position, but is not intended to cover all duties that this position may be required to perform from time to time.)

  • Key functions include being a leader in client management, project management, and some task execution on environmental design and engineering assignments.
  • Responsible for assembling the project team, assigning individual responsibilities of the team members, and identifying appropriate resources needed.
  • Responsible for developing the project schedule to ensure timely completion of the project.
  • Responsible for reviewing project deliverables to ensure adherence to quality standards.
  • Effectively communicate with the client’s primary contact (client manager or other as designated).
  • Prepare proposal and project change requests (PCRs) with assistance from other team members as needed.
  • Review proposals and PCRs prior to submittal to clients.
  • Review and approve monthly invoicing with appropriate support as needed.
  • Responsible for profitability of project/phase(s), adherence to project schedule, and quality of work product.
  • Effectively communicate with internal and external clients.
  • Provide accurate, detailed and high-quality work products.
  • Comply with all current policies and procedures of SynTerra.

  • Professional license designation as appropriate for field is required. P.E. preferred or E.I.T with ability to become a P.E. within six months of hire.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation desired.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of relevant industry experience is required. Four (4) years of previous experience with project management is required.
  • Ability to understand regulations and counsel clients on options to conform to regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following areas: Air emissions inventory/calculations; Tier II and TRI reporting; SPCC and SWPPP; RCRA regulations; wastewater treatment design; stormwater permitting and stormwater control design.
  • Software proficiency (including but not limited to): ERP systems, CRM systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • 40 hr. OSHA HAZWOPER trained preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for all levels of technical understanding.
  • Excellent math skills required.
  • Must maintain valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
